Dental sedation is something we offer here at Iroquois Dentistry and something I'm really passionate about and I really enjoy doing. We understand that going to the dentist and your dental visits can be scary. They don't have to be. We offer IV moderate sedation here in which we get the patient in for a preoperative appointment to assess all the vitals and make sure the patient is a good candidate for it.
We actually have a special surgical suite here that I'm licensed and authorized to do sedation in which the patient comes in, get the patient comfortable, and we're able to administer some medications intravenously to the patient to relax them and make their dental visit more comfortable.
IV sedation is used oftentimes for the more surgical aspects of dentistry in terms of tooth removal, whether it be one or multiple and in our dental implants, whether it be single implant or one of our all-on-x procedures. We also sedation for patients who have a little more of an anxiety or fear for simple fillings or even crowns and such.
Not all dentists are capable of providing IV sedation to their patients. I received some additional IV sedation training, which I'm blessed to have through my advanced education in general dentistry residency program.
We offer IV conscious sedation, otherwise known as twilight sedation. It's a form of sedation where the patient is sometimes kind of in and out of a sleepy state throughout the procedure. It's very safe. It's meant and very good for dental treatment. But oftentimes, with the post-operative follow-up call of the patient, the patient reports back to not remember anything and was very grateful to ever have that sedation for their dental treatment.
